I have a 62,000 mile 04 LJ for sale that I picked up from a neighbor that let it sit for a year and I cleaned up. Potential buyer had the LJ checked out by a mechanic (I was there) that said there was a lot of rust on the u-joints and they were a little loose. The rust was played up a bit on the unprotected front end parts, drive shaft and exhaust. There is no body or frame rust and it was not mentioned. The LJ was purchase new in Ohio then moved to Florida 3 years later so I would expect a little surface rust and it is 16 years old!

So what am I looking at to discount the price or pay to have it repaired?

It's going to vary from place to place, you need to call around to local shops.

Honestly though, I would say 2-3 hours of labor at $120 an hour, so probably $360 plus parts, but maybe less depending on who does it.

Chris sounds on par for a shop price.

unfortunately if you were to do it yourself its about $30 for 2 new spicer u joints. takes maybe 2'ish hours at the most taking your time doing it. its really not that technical of a job either.. but probably not one to try on your own if your not confident
