How to cover this up?

The pain on the hood of this jeep is just awful. No idea what happened in the main area but its like something got up underneath the clear coat. Any recommendations on a quick cover up? I have seen some hood wraps only or something to cover it in black or something to go along with the other accents. Looking for extremely affordable options.

The clear is starting to deteriorate, unfortunately it is terminal. You could sand it a bit and use a high quality clear to help a bit but once part of the hood goes the rest isn't too far behind. If you care about having a nice hood get it fixed now, once the clear is gone the color coat will quickly degrade and crack down to the primer. Good wax might help but don't use anything abrasive, you will speed up the process.

I had a red mustang years ago and the same thing happened on the spoiler/trunk. Red doesn’t like the sun after so many years. I ended up sanding down the clear coat without going into the base coat and re clearing it. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a lot better and cheap. Sorry I don’t have any photos.

I tell you what with a $16 Harbor freight paint gun and a little practice there’s no way you could do anything but improve it...Any good paint store can tell you what the easiest to use paint would be

If you’re careful and use the correct grits of wet or dry sandpaper, you can do the labor of sanding it down to the color coat. Just take your time and don’t take shortcuts.

Once that’s done, take it to a local paint shop and have them shoot the clear coat.

It’ll come out better, and end up being cheaper than having the shop do all the work.

You could just leave it too, it doesn't get that bad.

Anybody with an outside of the box idea? Just wrap the hood? Do you know of any vent inserts that would cover it, etc.....

little prep work and couple hundred bucks and your done could do like old school muscle car and do flat black or get it colored matched

Outside the box and “extremely affordable”… you could Plasti dip it depending on how you use it. If it’s mainly on road it’ll do fine regardless of the horror stories likely to follow.

If your off-road ing a lot and going through brush it probably won’t be the best solution.

It will get you by for awhile until you can repaint it.

Maybe sand it smooth and wrap. I think a flat black painted hood would look good on red.
