How to Factory Wire Your TJ for a Hardtop Part 1 97-02 (Dash Harness)

Courtesy light?

Yea, that is probably it. I just figured it out on my own a couple minutes ago. I searched for a video for replacing the headlight switch since I figured that wire might appear in the video. Sure enough, it did. That wire goes to a single connector on the very top of the light switch that you won't see unless you are looking there for it. I just plugged it back up. I should have been more careful while removing wires to remember where they go.

Great post and tutorial/pics! Do you have part#'s for the harnesses?

They might list it out in one of the manuals that’s posted in another thread here on the forum. Otherwise I’d recommend just looking up your year accompanied by dash / rear harness and you’ll likely find what you need on ebay.

Or accumulate 6 parts jeeps like my dad and I and scrounge from those 😂

Great write up! I plan to tackle mine this weekend or next week. I was lucky and bought new-old stock from someone who received the wiring package in their own hardtop deal, but his rig already had the wiring.

I know on my fuse panel I have a rear wiper slot that does have power, however I do not have the HBL slot, its a spare currently. Mine is a 97 which is why I am sure its a little weird.

Complete and Thank You. My soft top is gone and the hard top is on. Now got work to do. Electrical is my Fav! Parts list is great. Barn find 2005 LJ!
