My apologies if a similar thread already exists, however I wasn't able to find a solution to the problems I'm having. I have a 98 4.0L with sliding HVAC controls that I've been building up since about May, and have had the jeep for about a year. I recently an installed an A/C kit from JeepAir, and obviously installing it messed with a couple things in the heater box.
Here are my issues:
The green temperature control knob underneath the passenger side of the dash moves freely from cold to hot, but it has a slight "hiccup" when turning it back to cold that requires more force for it to be pushed back, and the cable connected from the sliding controls on my HVAC control panel to the green knob bends between the exit of the cable in the housing on the passenger side and the green temp control knob because there is too much resistance that happens. I was wondering if anybody has had this issue, or if anybody knew if there was a way to fix this issue without having to remove the heater box? To be clear, it only started after installing the A/C kit and messing with the assembly.
Secondly, the panel door actuator above the driver side foot well doesn't move as it should. When in dash vent mode, it won't retract like its supposed to, causing me to only be able to have defrost mode on. I can push it in manually and it'll stay in that position when the dash vent mode is selected so I can have A/C blowing through the dash vents, and after changing it to any other mode, it will return to its normal position, but it will not retract on its own. I've been looking around for a solution and a lot of people suggest that I have a vacuum leak, however the other actuators APPEAR to be working fine (The defrost/demist actuator seems to not retract in all the way, but it changes its position depending on the selected mode). Plus, I can disconnect the red line coming from the door panel actuator and I can hear hissing and I can feel the vacuum. I'm wondering if there's a vacuum leak in the red line that is not allowing the line to get enough vacuum to the actuator, or has the actuator has gone bad?
For about a week now its been finnicky, where I have to change between each mode for a few minutes for the air to come through the dash vents (when doing so I can hear things moving / changing which leads me to believe its possible its not a vacuum leak), but now it doesn't change to dash vents at all, which makes me think it could be a bad vacuum line, or the actuator failing slowly. Has anybody had any similar issues to this, and if so what did you do to fix it?
