Ignition Part Identification

Looking to identify this part mounted just under the ignition cylinder. What’s the yellow button for? Bypass switch?

The yellow button thing is part of the shift interlock cable. It's part of that black connector/cable on the opposite end of it.

The cover is for the ignition actuator. You need a #10 security torx for those screws circled in green to remove it. If you remove that cover, be very cautious because there is a tiny little metal pellet under there that is easily lost.

Nice! So the story behind the question is that my buddy’s TJ decided not to start back up after a short trail break. After troubleshooting the starting system best we could, he started digging into the ignition assembly. Saw that yellow button and decided to try holding it down while cranking and it fired right up!

Interesting. Did he have to do that every time he wanted to start it after that?

Nope! It’s been starting fine since then.

For sure, I guess he already replaced the actuator pin once, so he’s about to go through and verify everything is still lined up in there. Happy trails!
