Ignition Wire Issue

Before I tear apart the steering column again, I thought I’d post my question here since there are so many knowledgable folks around. I removed my dash to replace the heater core. While putting it all back together, I am replacing the head unit as well. When I hooked it up to test, It isn’t powering on. I checked the wires, and found that I am not getting any voltage at the ignition wire. The ground is good, the constant 12V is good, and the radio fuse is good. Having unhooked all of the steering column connectors to remove the steering column, I am assuming the fault lies with one of the connectors.

Does anyone know which specific connector contains the ignition wire that powers the radio?

Looking at your wiring diagram ( from your FSM available to you for free in the TJ Resources sub-forum) it looks like a red wire brings power from the PDC to pin 7 of the ignition switch, and pin 8 of the ignition switch (white wire) sends power through fuse # 15 behind the glovebox to your radio.

It looks like that power wire to your radio also goes through connector C222, any chance you might have missed it during reassembly? Looks like a white two-socket connector with a single pink wire in the passenger footwell near the blower resistor & courtesy lamp.

Ok, here is what I found. I found a connector behind the glove box but I can’t find a wire any where near it to connect it.
Under the left side, looking up from underneath, I found a small white connector that isn’t plugged in anywhere, and I can’t figure out where it is supposed to go. There is also an empty connector on the edge against the tub that I can’t find a wire for. Any thoughts?

The connector in your first pic looks like the one in question for your radio. According to the figure from your FSM the connection looks like it should be on the bottom under the glovebox. Maybe it got tangled up during the install?
As for the other two I can’t say offhand, but if you got download your 97 manual from the TJ resources forum you can find figures of how all the harnesses are routed and where the connectors are supposed to be. All that stuff is towards the end of section 8W.

Ok, so I checked that pin, and it is not getting 12V when the key is on. So unless that is the receiving end, it’s not the culprit. I grabbed my FSM and I’m going to look through the 8W section to see if I can make heads or tails of anything in it.

Found it. The connector was tucked up under the duct hose and stuck, so when I tugged on it there was no slack. Took out the fuse box and fell down with it. Connected it up and I have juice at the ACC wire. Thanks so much for your help.

There she is! That’s happened to me a lot removing dashboards, sometimes all the connectors don’t return to their original home. Glad you found it.
