Installed some side steps on my LJ

I found a set of OEM Side Steps on Facebook Market place for the cheap the other day and grabbed them. I wasn't looking for side steps. I don't know that I needed side steps.... but they were not far away and priced right. So yeah.... I wanted some side steps all of a sudden.

They were pretty rough and rusty, but came with all the hardware.

So after a night of the metal parts taking a bath in rust remover, I took a wire wheel to them and then primed and painted them.

Then came the adventure of installing Rivnuts in the frame since my jeep didn't come from the factory with side steps.

I made my own Rivnut installation tool, using a long bolt a threaded coupler and a couple of washers and an impact driver.

Rivnuts installed! That was easy.... (there were only 8 to do)

My order of Cerakote trim treatment finally arrived and I was able to refresh the plastic steps.

This went on super easy and ends up dry to the touch in maybe 10 min of leaving the steps out in the sun. Bonus points for not being greasy or slick as well, time will tell how long the steps stay black but they sure do look a lot better than when I got them.

Here they are installed.

Was a fun project that now gives me a place to knock the sand off our feet when we are leaving the beach.

Glad you got them on, I wish I could get $20 for mine. I should probably tell somebody they are for sale, I hear that's a good first step.

lol.. yeah. I see them all the time for $50 or $100 here in the Jacksonville FL area.... they don't last too long it doesn't seem. But first you have to list them if you want to get the cash... Good Luck!

And the guy the sold them to said I will end up hating them as much as he did. Not because of a rust issue but he kept hitting his leg getting in / out of the jeep.

Its still new to me so I am happy right now. I also like that its less than 10 min to take them off if I want too. Here in FL I don't have rock crawling adventures ahead of me any time soon, but certainly lots of beach time.

that’s one clean ride you’ve got there. my tj came with the side steps and the wife likes them especially after the 3.5” lift. i very seldom use them myself.
