Anyone seen this before.? My LJ came with a weird, white film on the steering column trim. Nothing on the rest of the interior trim, just the steering column. You can scratch it with your fingernails.

Any thoughts on how to clean it off? Internet research says to use acetone but I've heard acetone dissolves certain plastics.

Try a magic eraser. I’ve used that on hardtop with good results.

Otherwise, prep and paint.

Its weird that it only oxidized on the steering column trim. Maybe a bad batch of abs at the factory.
My steering column has a different texture than the door panels and dash with a little bit of oxidation on it as well so perhaps there’s some sort of protective coating on the others that isn’t on the steering column(I can only assume because it’s kinda out of the way)

Had a sticky problem on an Altima. Dealership said we used some chemical on it that caused the problem. Ended up they manufactured it wrong and had a batch of bad dashboards. So I’m guessing either bad batch of wrong cleaner.
