“This is a 1986 Jeep Comanche pickup truck 4 by 4 with 47,000 original miles. This is a long bed and is in good condition for the year great to restore or build into a monster truck has automatic transmission and V6”

I need a truck so I can across this. Short bed would have been better but it has low miles. Are the engine reliable? To my knowledge it’s a 2.8 liter GM 60-Degree V6.
It’s listed for $3,950

No. I've seen ones in far better condition for not much more money.

Also, the 2.8 GM V6 used in those is a complete piece of garbage in every sense of the word.

Chris and warrpath raised good points. Not that there's a lot of choice but that is not a particularly good year or model. The RENIX era MJ's and XJ's came out in the following year. Although I disagree, some consider them to be not as good either as the model that followed them in 1991 and lasted until 1992 for the MJ's which was their last year. Both models after the one you are looking at had the 4.0L 6 cyl. engine which is basically what we have in our TJ's. MUCH better engine.

I have an '88 MJ Eliminator which is that last year of AMC and an '89 XJ Limited which is the first year of the Chrysler Jeeps. Both are RENIX Jeeps. MJ's & XJ's with the V6 are kind of low on the totem pole. On the plus side that one looks pretty complete but what's there will need some work.

if you're not already aware of it, the Comanche Club Forum is a great source of info ... https://comancheclub.com/

Here's mine btw. They're a lot of fun to drive and they attract a lot of attention, sometimes too much!

Unless it has a 4.0 I’d avoid a Comanche

Truth.
Too bad Col. Custer didnt heed this advice.

99' senior year.. got to drive a comanche to school for a bit. It was my uncles.. and he needed a "nicer" car for work... so he took my 88' v8 tbird.

No complaints from me.

just to play devils advocate, here is one i ran across the other day for sale kinda local. 350 engine swapped in, fullsize axles, 42" tires. (needs drivelines and some work still) $3500

Its a prime candidate for an engine swap if its not rusty. All the Jeep trucks in the area have holes in the body from rot, but at the asking price it no deal. My neighbor had a 2.8 Jeep when I was a kid. It was broken a lot. My family had an early S-10 Blazer with the same engine. Total dog, not enough power to keep up with traffic even running well. They traded it off quickly. Stay away from the 2.8, or go test drive it and let us know what you think. Either way.
