I am planning on heading out to see this TJ after a bit of negotiation. So far, the owner is willing to take $9000 cash + the trade of my TJ. Mine is an 01 2.5L automatic with a cracked frame and rotted body mount on the tub. It's the Patriot Blue one I also posted here. He is willing to let me remove the parts I want, as long as he can keep the ones off his that I replace. This would include my bumpers, lights, winch, and Bestop Trektop NX.

Owners listing states the following:
  • 2003 TJ Rubicon with 67000 original miles
  • 5 speed manual
  • Brand new Toyota Army Green paint
  • Bronco Sasquatch rims on 35s
  • AEM Brute Intake
  • Brand new:
    • Brakes (Calipers/Pads/Rotors)
    • Shocks
    • Hood latches
    • Lights
    • Spark plugs
    • Steering components (Joints & hardware)
    • Muffler
  • Earl stainless extended brake lines
  • Interior gutted, scrubbed, cleaned, then rebuilt
  • Underside sand blasted, treated with acid cleaner, HLVP gun sprayed with Summit Chassis Saver
  • Rock Krawler tummy tuck
  • Long arm 4 inch lift including 3 link front 4 link rear
  • Dana 44 front axle with stock locker
  • Built trussed Ford 8.8 rear with mechanical locker
  • NP241 transfer case
  • 4.56 gear ratio
Only flaw is that the heater controls don't work. It is likely a switch or fuse. I had the same issue on my TJ.

This Jeep will be my daily driver, to and from work. It will also be my road trip vehicle, trail rig, and around town putter. I'm not going to bounce it off trees and realistically I will baby the thing, but would still like for it to be capable. It will see snow, as I'm moving to Canada. It will be my only vehicle. It will need to be used on the highway.

Does this look clean enough to justify the asking price, or should I haggle more? He was originally asking $11.5k cash. I'm aware my TJ won't be worth much when I take the parts off, plus given the condition.

Ok this is just my opinion, but if you spent half of that money towards your current Jeep repairing the frame and adding a few goodies, wouldn't that make more sense? Or is the 4.0 and 5 speed that attracts you most? By the way your jeep looks awesome.

It's the 4.0 and everything else. Mine is a high mileage 2.5L automatic. It's got 3.73 gears. I need it to be my daily, and I am moving in the next month and a half. Time is of the essence. The amount I'd have to invest in mine... I'd rather just grab a clean example and take good care of it.

All good reasons

Yes, the ford 8.8 at 67000 is odd. but, overall it looks like it's worth if from my chair here in Cincy! lol You won't know until you go check it out.
I'd keep the hard top also. I use a hard top in the winter and switch over to a soft top in the spring. Mostly garaged if there's any salt on the road like now. But, a soft top is fairly inexpensive compared to a Hard top in my part of the country. And I do use my hard top when i travel on the expressway it's a huge difference sound wise with the sound matt on the ceiling. I ran down to Gatlinburg 2 times last summer, once with the soft top and once with the hard top. Night and day difference.

For west coast prices it seems reasonable. What Keeps it from being passable in Americas hat?

I'm on the East Coast! It's not passable for certain because of the front fender setup & tires. Unfortunately because it's a custom paint job I can't just grab some OEM fenders and slap them on to pass, you know?

I'm going Wednesday to look at a bone stock rust free LJ with the premium package and security package. If it's as clean as the photos, I will be leaving with it 100%. I LOVE it, it's exactly what I want.

You can’t go wrong with an LJ! That’s a big upgrade. The custom paint on fenders is a big plus if it was certifiable. Painting costs so much these days
