Attended Jeep Invasion at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. The trip was more about getting out and doing something than participating in the event. My youngest daughter (10) and I road tripped the little Jeep 352 miles (850 by the time we got home) for a nice four day weekend. She had her heart set on TJ Fest but I just couldn’t commit to the 19 hour drive in a 4cyl Jeep, so we attended this event instead. We’ve traveled to this area before but had never been out on the dunes in the ORV area, it was a lot of fun to experience.
The Jeep Invasion event itself was lacking and full of funky looking Jk’s/Jl’s. We did not participate in all of the events they had planned and chose to explore the dunes on our own.
For anyone traveling to that area and camping I would not recommend The Hideaway Campground. I read some strange reviews about people getting kicked out but thought people were being dramatic, they were not kidding. I was approached early Saturday morning by an employee that accused me of sneaking into the campground after the gate was closed at midnight. I explained that I was there all night with my 10 year old daughter and had no idea what he was talking about. He did apologize and quickly realized he made a mistake but some other Jeepers around us were evicted. If we go back up next year we will explore other options.
Anyway, it’s a fun area with plenty of off-roading opportunity’s and we had a good time. The Jeep did great also.
