Jeep overheating at idle

2002 Jeep Wrangler overheating and throwing a cylinder 1 misfire code. We have replaced radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan clutch, spark plugs and temperature gauge sensor. Just took it for a test drive and seemed to be ok until I came to an idol. Any other suggestions before I take to a mechanic? Hoping its not a head gasket
 
One thing I would check is the radiator fluid level... seriously. Let it cool down entirely for an hour or so. Open up the radiator cap and see where the fluid is at. Mine wasn't full enough after a cooling system overhaul, and it kept overheating when I would sit at idle, but not when I was driving. Turns out my radiator was really low on fluid! I didn't fill it enough when I poured new coolant in. Well, I thought I did, but it turns out that as I drove, the coolant level had went down as the coolant made it's way into places like the heater core and such, where it couldn't have gone when I was filling the coolant when the vehicle was off.
 
Is it losing water? Have you pressure tested the cooling system?

The cylinder 1 misfire concerns me. Could be leaking into that cylinder. A compression leak down test would give you a lot of information.
 
Also, after trying my suggestion (which is easy) I second @CodaMan's suggestion for testing the compression. That alone will tell you a lot.

My concern is he most likely had no misfire before changing all those cooling system components, now he's over heating and throwing a misfire code. That tells me that he's now losing compression in that cylinder. A loss of coolant and a misfire is a sure sign of a blown head gasket due to an over heat condition.

I agree. The symptoms don't look good, that's for sure.

A misfire and loss of coolant definitely don't point to anything good.

Why did you change all of that? Was there some kind of cooling issue that led you to change it all in the first place?
 
I read the threads about the overheating problems, mine seems to be different. I was idling for about 20 minutes with the heater on high. Then I took off up a highway and about 1 mile, the jeep started to steam. I immediately stop the jeep and let it cool off. I noticed a little bit of anti freeze around the radiator cap, but not enough to be concerned. I did not loosen the cap. Today it is very cold outside that's why I was idling with the heater on. I also have my snow plow on the jeep, as snow is coming tomorrow.
I lowered the snow plow so it would not obstruct air going into radiator, and I made it home (3 miles) with no steaming. I kept a close eye on the temp gauge, and it remained stable, well with in normal level. My question after all that background is this: Could the problem be a block heater core, or the fact that the plow blade was obstructing air flow after idling for 20 minutes or something totally different?
