My Jeep TJ 1998 this morning wouldn't stay on for more than a few seconds and would stall every time I shifted into 1st gear. it worked fine yesterday night

Yea i have done that and checked the fuel pressure and it all seems normal, It runs for about 30 seconds before it turns off and wont start again

I'd probably suggest getting a OBDII scanner that can read live, real-time data.

If you hook it up to your TJ while it's running it will be able to monitor it in real time and tell you what's going on.

can you elaborate further on what you mean by this

There's a cable on the 32s... earlier automatic transmissions...that runs from the throttle body to the transmission and basically adjust transmission pressures based on throttle position.

The factory service manual has a few pages dedicated to adjusting this.

I'm allergic to automatics so no first hand experience. I know just enough to muddle my way through keeping them running.

Yeah, not enough info for me. I’d second grabbing a scanner like other folks have mentioned, and see what she’s telling you. Otherwise you’re just gonna throw parts at it, unfortunately.

A $25 ODB Bluetooth reader from Amazon and the free Torque Lite app on your phone will read live ODB data.

They're fantastic and cheap and easy. I keep one in the glove box of all my old junk (that has ODB). I don't leave them plugged in because one... they're a phantom draw on power, 2 a cybersecurity risk, 3 something I smack with a body part like a knee.

P.S. Fill out your profile...I don't know if you have an automatic or a stick...or any details. Even a picture tells us if you have rust to contend with or a lot of aftermarket parts.

If you have the 3 spd auto, I might try letting it idle in neutral for a minute and then try shifting into gear.

My 2000 TJ started having the same issue when I had the top off and it got rained on a bit. When it dried out, the issue went away for awhile but surprises me every so often. Still haven't isolated it to a specific component.
