Hello there, I'm looking for wiring colors for a 1998 TJ. My cruise control has stopped working (no light on dash, no nothing) so I've been searching around and found a broken or cut wire in the steering column, it's brown and yellow. Anyone know what this wire is for? There's also some loose wires under the dash on the drivers side, not sure if they're just unused or if the previous owner disconnected them for some reason. Any help would be appreciated!

While I'm not entirely certain what that wire(s) is, I guarantee you that if you look at the wiring diagrams in the FSM, it will tell you exactly what it is.

Ok so I have the jeep in the garage to try and figure this out again. Interestingly, the FSM has 3 wires going into the clock spring connector I'm dealing with, but my jeep has four wires. Not sure what's up with that, I've checked the other years before and after my jeep year, and they all have 3. But anyways, I'm also wondering if cruise will even activate when the vehicle isn't moving. I might be getting the right wire combo and not knowing it if I hit the button and the dash light doesn't come on just because I'm not driving it. Can anyone tell me if they get in their jeep, turn the key to on, and hit the cruise button, if the cruise light on the dash will come on?
I retrofitted cruise control to my Jeep using the factory parts. The cruise control light in the gauge cluster will come on when cruise control is turned on. However, you obviously can't actually engage cruise control until you're over a certain speed (I want to say it's over 25 mph or something).
Right, you won't be able to set it to hold a speed less than a certain amount, but the system will activate and the light will come on any time as long as the ignition is in the on position? That has been my test to see if I got it. So far no luck...
Yep. When I am sitting in the vehicle without moving, the cruise control light will come on when I press the button.
