Well, this looks helpful because I was just thinking about taking the back ones out completely. But I do occasionally have rear seat drivers😆. So I'll be needing to pick me some.

I was ordering several things from this site, and this was one of them.

Velcro Self-Wrap

I ordered several feet of it in the 2" version (I think, maybe 1-1/2") for various things. It would work well for that. I don't use it for my belts because my seat and seat belts are not installed 99% of the time, but I use it to secure the sail panels when I have all the windows out. It keeps them from flapping around. I keep it wrapped around the roll bar all the time so it's there when I need it.

I've been using velcro straps for probably 10 years or so. The seat belts are loud if left flapping in the wind. I have two on each side, you can see the bottom ones in this pic. I hardly ever have anyone in the back, but it's quick to take the straps off if needed.

Great idea.. I just got a TJ and thought for a second it was my spiderweb shade .. but nope it’s the rear seat belts flapping lol
 
I use some small, short bungees. The only thing with this solution is the foam under the roll bar covers is permanently indented where the bungees have been used.

I use mini-bungees also. The foam indentations eventually disappear on mine.

What baffles me is the occasional passenger who gets in and gives that "WTF am I supposed to do with this?" look at the bungeed seat belt. It just doesn't seem that much like rocket science to me...

I use the straps that came with the TJ to secure the front roll bars in the rear when the windshield down. Like others said, I don't have a lot of folks in the back very often.

thanks guys, this thread reminds me, I have to remove the safety belts for the backseat of my TJ before my next trip out into the desert or dunes..since I've removed my rear seat, and replaced it with my spare tire, the belts are no longer needed and the noise they make on the highway while getting to the trails can be annoying.. I never think about them when I'm just tooling around town or my neighborhood..didn't have this issue with the YJ since it had a sport bar and only had lap belts for the rear seat passengers
