So I had two complete half doors that I hauled back from vacation in Chicago (I had to — they cost nearly nothing). They were in perfect physical condition (no dents/dings), but starting to rust in the lower seams. They needed to be repainted, so figured could tackle the rust during prep. Well, the passenger side door was too far gone — the folded over seam on the bottom was starting to delaminate. Could have cut out the rust and re-created the folded over seam... but there's a limit to my skills.
Took a chance on a replacement Key Parts 1/2 door panel — even more risky as I needed to buy one of pre-'03 panels since mine came off a '99 — and my LJR is an '05 (though for the sheet metal I think the only difference is the size of the cutout for the door lock tumbler).
I did not have a scale that was in the right range for me to weigh them, though stripped down the factory 1/2 door seemed fairly close in weight to the Key Parts one (maybe a bit heavier). Door prepped fine, and had the right holes for the newer-style (late '99-on) weatherstrip (the OEM door had to be drilled out with a template).
Fingers crossed, doors painted and hung — and I had to look at the rusted passenger door on the shop floor to know which one was OEM, and which one was the Key Parts door. It has the exact same fit as the OEM door. They both pooch out at the bottom rear edge from the bulk of the not-broken-in weatherstrip, but do so identically.
Haven't fit up the inside panels yet, but will update the post when I do. So far am very impressed with the Key Parts door. You obviously wouldn't buy them to build half doors unless you already had half doors, since these are 100% stripped of any hardware and/or fasteners. No hinges either. Completely stripped. But if you have a set of half doors that are in poor condition, or you can buy some, the replacement door panels will take all of the hinges and hardware no problem, and prepped/painted will look like new OEM.
