Land Rovers

Originally I’m from the UK, my parents live north near the border of wales. My dads side of the family is all farmers and there’s a big farming community here. As a result a lot of them use decently old farming land rovers for taking around livestock and general farm work.

I’m here for vacation and visiting the family, so walking around today I saw a pretty built up land rover with a snorkel. Also I saw a land rover with its spare on the hood (have to go back and grab a picture of this later)

I’ll post more of the land rovers I see as I go around and that of family over the two weeks I’m here for anyone that has interest!

Awesome looking vehicles, but ungodly expensive here in the U.S.

The other thing is that they are notoriously unreliable. I'm not sure if the newer ones have gotten better with that, but the old ones are just horrible in terms of reliability, and that's coming from several people I know who have run them for decades.

Jeremy Clarkson once said something to the tune of, "If you want to get somewhere off-the-grid, drive a Land Rover. If you want to somewhere off-the-grid and get back, drive a Toyota.".

I totally believe that too. If I was planning some sort of Outback expedition, I'd be doing it in anything but a Land Rover. I see a lot of those guys down in Australia and other countries driving some of those cool diesel Toyotas we don't get here (I believe they are FJs), which are supposed to be bullet proof.

I really like Defenders. When I lived in LA, I used to see a D 110 all the time. I had serious car envy. It looked like this one:

I love that the tag under the Land Rover emblem doesn't say "Defender" (one of their models), it says "Offender"!!!

Are we talking North Wales...My dad is from just outside Hollyhead till he was 5..then moved to Chester for the remainder of his youth before joining the Royal Navy.
We used to go and see my Grandparents in Chester and see tons of LR's about....the good Series 1 are as rare as an honest politician though.

Love D90's and was very keen on buying just before end of production. Until I went for a drive in one, my god it made the TJ seem like a sports car in comparison.

No, ride was ok.

More how truck like it was compared to the TJ to drive around town. I'm sure on the open road a lot of the issues would be ok, but getting around town it was a real chore. This was one of the last versions with all of the bells and whistles too.

Years ago, I had a Landrover 110 county which is a LWB V8 version. Great tourer but quite possibly the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned.

Moved when I was about 8 so very subtle.

Now in Scotland saw a few today. The two black ones (the far forward one in shot of three) had snorkels which is interesting. Tried to shoot discretely so not the best photos.

They truly are awesome looking rigs. There's a fella a few blocks away from me that daily drives a vintage one from the '60's. Must have something to do with the neighborhood, as there's another guy who drives a faded-out, all original '64 Vette as his daily. I admire them both!
