Decades ago, when I owned a Chevy S-10 Blazer. I was told Jeep wrote the book on 4WD, but one of the "Tracs", whether Quadra-Trac, Command-Trac, or Select-Trac, was invented by GM and Jeep was paying them royalties. Can anybody confirm or deny ?

From what I remember they were all developed for or by Jeep.

I know the Quadra-trac was built by borg warner.

As with many things sold it's all about marketing... Jeep might not of wrote the book on 4WD but they were the birth of the "Jeep"...

And a quick google search doesn't show that anywhere about the "Tracs"

From what I remember , Quadra-Trac and the other full-time FWD systems were largely based off the Ferguson four wheel drive system. It started in 1965 on the Jensen FF , ( Big Block MoPar powered ! ) . So full time 4X4 was really kinda a Limey thing that got rework by everyone on this side of the pond . 73-79 NP-203 transfer case on GM stuff worked well with an automatic , ( except gas mileage ) . I had a very rare full-time / CH-465 4speed in a 74 Blazer , it didn't work very well . If you were drag racing , the Blazer would launch real hard for about 30 feet , then the left front tire would go up in smoke as all the power went there. I converted it to part time 4X4 with a Doug Nash kit , ( Real high quality ) and it performed much better , ( And picked up 2 1/2 m.p.g. )
