Lexan rear window

New to Jeep land, and not very mechanically inclined. Looking for how to and advice on putting a lexan rear window in my sons 2000 TJ hardtop.

do you need weather stripping?
shocks?
what keeps window closed and snug?

any-other advice would be great.

Why do you want lexan?

Isn't replacement rear glass available?

It is and Lexan (polycarbonate) is a terrible choice unless it has been hard coated. It scratches very easily and is very flexible. It is flexible enough that just the minor force from the struts would bow it outward where they attach.

That is all true and I'm pretty sure the outward bow would be horizontal which would make it even weirder

To actually answer your questions, yes, there is weatherstripping that runs around the opening. There are gas struts that attach to the OEM rear lift gate glass. The window is kept closed by a hard plastic strip that has a lip that extends down below the glass edge inside the tail gate. The window is shut and then when the tail gate closes, it keeps the window in place. The plastic strip is glued to the lower edge of the glass.
