For those of you who have 5-gallon carriers on their Jeep, this is a nice item to have. You don’t even have to fill them before you get to camp because you can filter your drinking water when you get there, as long as there’s a lake or stream nearby. Costco has them for $150.

Added bonus for those of us in earthquake country is that they make a fantastic emergency water filter.

Im not trying to be negative, im just throwing a cheaper option out there.Right now 95% of the backpacking community is using Sawyer filters, the specs are similar and they are rated to filter alot more gallons for $20.I'm using the new Sawyer mini, it's threaded on both ends so I can use anything from water bottles to water bladders with it.

Here's the old version so you can browse the reviews.

They also offer the new mini as a gravity filter with 1 gallon bags now.

I don't think you're being negative at all, it's good to bring up other options because a Lifesaver certainly isn't the cheapest option. You can obviously get clean water for less money but there are some conveniences with a Lifesaver that you won't get with a backpacking filter, especially if you're not alone and have other people in the group who will need water for drinking, cooking, etc. I also like the fact that it's pressurized and you can put a shower attachment on it for $20, which will come in handy for cleaning dishes and stuff like that. Since I already have jerrycan holders on my OR-Fab tire carrier, this is sort of a 'nice-to-have' but not absolutely necessary.

My Lifesaver will also sit with the rest of our earthquake emergency kit, ready for a natural disaster. I rotate several gallon water jugs on a fairly regular basis and this will make things a bit easier.

I hear that, it'll be nice having the pressure sprayer.Ive tried a few solar showers and I wasn't very happy with them, they waste alot of water and they only put out a shower the size of my fist.I drilled a bunch of holes in a bottle cap to make something that works a little better.Ill be giving a cap and ball revolver a bath with it at the range tomorrow after I shoot it, it's nice having something regardless of what it is.

I didn't notice anything mentioned, but be careful with your filter in cold weather. The Sawyers are ruined if they freeze.
