Loose replacement battery?

Today I bought a superstart platinum group 34 battery to replace a dead fire hazard making 3D acid sculpture art. (I know an AGM is probably foolish overkill for a 15yo vehicle but whatever)

The odd thing is it seems about 1/4” too thin; that is to say after ratcheting down the holding wedge, if I slide it as far back as I can towards the firewall the bottom battery lip clears the wedge, and if I slide it as far forward as I can towards the radiator, the bottom battery lip clears the rear catch.

It did come with an optional “riser”, but best I can tell is all that would do is make the lip too high to get under the catches in the first place. I’m not sure if the actual battery is thinner, or if the bottom lips aren’t as pronounced; unfortunately I traded in the old battery when I purchased it so I can’t side by side compare to see what exactly is up.

Has anyone else run into a similar problem and found a solution?

No, many of us prefer and run AGMs.

Without having seen your TJ could you just get an inexpensive universal kit and drill a couple of holes in the tray?

There are plenty of nice aluminum battery hold downs on Amazon.

I ended up welding some 3/4" angle iron to get mine down tight.

This worked out well too because I used the hold down later as a mount location for a relay and fuse box.
