I bought a jeep with low oil pressure. I changed the sender, hooked a mechanical gauge to it and it was reading low. I shut it off at 10psi at 750rpm idle after 15-20 minutes idling. I then dropped the pan and found one of the bolts for the oil pump had fallen out. I also found the connecting rod bearings were worn…probably from low oil pressure. I changed mains and con rod bearings and put in a new pump. Ran it for 20 minutes and changed the oil. Very little metal compared to what I was expecting. Put in heavier weight oil. I let it idle again with the mechanical gauge and the oil pressure dropped to 8 psi before I shut it off. I took it for a spin and the pressure did come up 10 or more psi per 1000rpm. Any suggestions?

Well...long as your confident your aftermarket oil gauge is reading correctly, then.....shite. What pressure at say 2000 rpm do you get? Did you plasti gauge the bearings, mic the crank, that sort of thing. That surely sucks for you. The world of rebuilds and rebuild parts taint what it used to be ya know. Hopefully you get her worked out.
Yeah, I primed it. It’s a melling. It came up to 60 on the mechanical gauge at start up with the 10w-40 after oil change. I took it for a longer drive today, oil pressure seems to stay at 8psi at idle. It does build up when I drive, will go to 25-30 before I shift around 2000rpm.
Another place for the pressure to leak out would be the cam bearings.
This might be a case where a high volume oil pump would keep the pressure up at idle.
