Low Voltage

Daughter has been driving my 99 4.0 last 3months. Today she said the voltage meter on dash was on 0 on her way home. I went out and it fired up. The dial stayed half way between 0 and 14 so I'm guessing like 12 volts. What should I be looking at?? Could it just be the battery (fingers crossed)

I just had it checked at Autozone. They said the alternator was on its way out. Not sure what it read. I have a multi meter I bought of Amazon and have never been able to get it to work.

Look into the Durango alternator swap. It's not much more $ than a TJ alt but has more capacity for future loads. I used a new Remy alternator off RockAuto

You forgot to tell the OP what else needs to be done with the above modification.
You will need to grind the aluminum alternator mount to accommodate the larger sized alternator casing.
You should also put in a larger gauge fusible link to accommodate the larger amp load otherwise you will burn out the stock fusible link when trying to apply more load than the stock fusible link is designed for.
Probably couldn’t hurt to upgrade the battery cables to a larger gauge cable.
