Newly retired, two years. already missing the people. the work. not much. but it was getting bad having to deal with the new LTs and their millennial thinking

Medical field is about the closest I have found after getting out in 2007.

Nurses / Techs are like NCOs. New nurses are like junior enlisted. Residents and new docs are like butter bars.

Shared purpose, shared annoyances, shared mission.

I'm with you. I go to the grocery or Home Depot and see somebody with a vet's hat or patch and I go right up and talk to them. There's no b.s., just like a couple of old buddies saying, "Hi." I did this once and the guy's wife said to him, after I walked away, "Who was that?" He replied, "One of my brothers."

On a different note, I can't believe the Navy is mothballing 17 ships because they can't find crew. How many unemployed USN Vets are sleeping on the street every night. Come on, Navy, if only 10% of those guys is able, you would still be turning them away after manning 17 ships. And they aren't even combatant ships, they are MSC! I'm 74 and I could stand bridge watch on any MSC ship.

I've done the same thing many times, see a guy with a Vietnam vet hat or patch and go right up and start talking to him.

In preparation for the decommissioning ceremony for the USS Enterprise NCC-1701D, we have the exceptional honor of being escorted by one of the newly re-engined Federation ships...the B-52X.

First flown April 15th 1952, the B-52 has been in continuous service, undergoing multiple upgrades during its lifetime. The now re-engined B-52X is expected to serve up to stardate 53000.0 and beyond if no suitable replacement is available at that time.
