To make a long story short, I have brackets for the mirrors that mount to the lower windshield hinge. The paint it starting to peel and develope a little surface rust, so I took them off to repaint. When I took them off it looks like the PO had put some grease between the bracket and body. It looks like that black MOLY grease. Is that common practice/recommended to reduce any possible squeaks? Any one else run in to this?

That sounds like he just did it so it wouldn’t rust behind the bracket.

That was another thought that crossed my mind. After all I do live in CT, and rust is our state flower after all.
