Hi all,
Have a question I figured I would ask the forum. I have a 2002 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 with about 106k miles on it. When I purchased it with 101k mikes on it last December she was driving great and then after a long road trip (500 miles) she threw an engine code and I took it to my mechanic.
This was about late May and it was misfiring in cylinders 1 and 2 and they diagnosed it as a bad valve cover gaskets and ignition coil pack, which they replaced both items and changed the spark plugs too.
Car was driving fine no misfires all summer until recently a few weeks ago it threw a code again for cylinder 3 misfire. I took it back to my mechanic and they ended up diagnosing it as the head needing to be refinished due to carbon buildup in some of the cylinders… they said it probably happened due to a loose oil cap as I noticed the original wasn’t totally secure. They refinished the head and the car was driving great after I picked it up, never felt smoother, and then after about 150 miles the car threw CEL again. I got it checked out and it was for cylinders 2 and 3 misfire.
I am at my wits end with this misfire problem now and have already spent 2k trying to fix it.
Does anyone have any clue what they think the actual problem can be? The car doesn’t shudder or idle rough and I see no leaks or anything.
Glad to have joined this forum and am looking forward to solving this once and for all. Cheers.
