I looking to replace my '98 4.0L motor mounts with either Brown Dog or MORE mounts, and was wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to the engine brackets they sell as well, or is it overkill? Are the engine brackets really that prone to breaking?
My opinion is better safe than sorry. I went with Brown Dog Super brackets and rubber mounts and couldn't be happier with them. Maybe the stock brackets aren't that prone to breaking, but I know some have (that's the whole reason Tim created them) and to me it's not worth worrying about, so I got them and haven't regretted doing so.
I've had both the Brown Dog and MORE rubber mounts and the MORE was substantially heavier-duty mount which is the one I'd go for again if I needed it. MORE calls it their "Bombproof" mount and it pretty much is.
Make sure to get rubber or you'll get more engine vibrations in the cab if you go with polyurethane mounts. I actually pushed Brown Dog to introduce their later version with the rubber bushings.

Thanks, I'm asking specifically about the brackets that bolt to the engine.
Understood, I wouldn't worry about them. The only part I've ever seen break is replaced by both the Brown Dog and MORE mounts.

Hey I Know this thread is kind of old, but I'd like two know what you did. I'm in a situation where I need the brown dog brackets and I was wondering how it worked out for you?
