Yep, like an oven. I measured the back patio pavers that were in the sun using an IR thermometer and they were 153 degrees.
edit: My pool is 92+ degrees during the heat of summer.

Hmm I did not know that about Boise. I'll look into that too thanks. I don't know much about Idaho but I can dig a good potato
The hard part about the east coast,
Once you’ve lived out here. it’s really hard to go back east. so much freedom out here. BLM and state lands.
everything on the east coast is owned. To do any wheeling you have to pay. Even the state lands like Uhwarrie cost money.
I’ve been dragging my feet about moving back. Family is about 30 minutes south of Raleigh. it’s a nice place. lots of damn yankees though.

i don’t what your directions in Tech are.
UT is hands down better then Denver in every thought possible to me. Inknow they have grown exponentially since i left in 2006.
Tuscaloosa AL is another you might want to look at.
the price i paid for Bennett would buy you a medium size mansion in Alabama.

Love it! We'd get a kick out of the little Spud mascott roaming the sidelines promoting Idaho potatoes at the Boise State football games and all the potato related swag in the airport gift shops.
I worked Atlanta for 8 months. I drove 60 one way to work because I didn't want to be near that place.
Granted I am a country boy and hate cities and people so that's one reason I commuted so far.
What about Huntsville, AL. Its booming right now and has and will be for some time to come.
Yes ww pay to ride OHV parks and some state lands too. But its not bad.

Having lived in Houston for most of my life I’ll put a few things out there. There are multiple suburbs around the energy corridor. Traffic is stupid here, 30-40+ minutes to drive 15 miles at most times of the day. The cost of living compared to Denver would be roughly -5%. To get to any worth while off roading is multiple hours, unless you like mud. Doing anything remotely outside 6 months+ of the year is miserable to near impossible due to the high humidity. The food scene is top notch and is about the only thing going for Houston, however living out in the burbs will require the long drive time sitting in traffic to get to said restaurants. Power outages is the norm due to poor energy grid, highly recommend a generator large enough to power your house for AC purposes alone. Galveston most of the time is brown sewage water, maybe you will get lucky 1 day a year where the water is clear and blue. Everything is FLAT, only noticeable elevation gain is from freeway overpasses. Flooding is widespread, getting worse, and is no joke.
You mentioned Energy and Tech. There is no shortage of energy companies and they do pay well but there is a ton of turnover with layoffs happening all the time.

You should go visit these places and poke around for a bit! I don't think you'll save much vs CO prices right now though. Our market has pulled back hard, more than many others - selling your place may be tough in and of itself.
Raleigh seems to be a great place for tech jobs according to what I've heard from tech friends over the years.
Agreed. I hated driving on I-25 and other roads enough to scratch Denver off my list.

Data Engineering. I work in energy now which is probably beneficial to stay in and be a better candidate because of some industry specific knowledge, but generally the industry doesn't matter all that much for what I do.
Not sure exactly what kind of tech/energy stuff you do, but there's a decent bit of that in, and coming to, WV. Plenty of outdoorsy stuff to do, lots of offroading options, all 4 seasons of weather, and one of the lowest COL in the country. Between oil & gas, solar, manufacturing, data centers, aerospace, defense, and coal, there's quite a few opportunities to make money here if that stuff is in your wheelhouse.
The low COL is no joke though. You'll be hard pressed to find cheaper housing and property anywhere else.

It's also incredibly beautiful in WV and really underappreciated for how much so.
