Need a new transfer case

So I was told i need a new transfer case. Our issue is that it won’t move when we put in into 4wheel drive, is like someone chained it to the ground. Runs great and normal when not in 4wheel, I can barely pull the handle up to shift into 4wheel. Don’t mind looking for a used one and rebuilding it, unless there are other things I should look for first? 2006 TJ 65k miles, 3” lift.

Can you disconnect the shift linkage and see if you can shift it directly on the tcase.

Partially frozen shifter linkage was my hopeful first guess as well. Definitely worth a shot to check out…

X2 on the shifter linkage adjustment.
IF the problem turns out not to be the shifter linkage adjustment; I would check the ATF level in the TC and see if there are sparklies in the ATF.

will try today, if it does move do I have clean or replace someth8ng? If it doesn’t move what does that tell me since it drives perfect in 2wd?

IF the TC shifts directly without the shifter linkage connected; then the linkage is either misaligned or out of adjustment possibly caused by a body lift, MML or TC drop.

Yes but the 3” lift was done 12 years ago
