To that end, I plan on working with a shop to give the underside a treatment in order to protect as best as possible against the inevitable exposure to salt.
I saw this thread last week and failed to see any problem with the alignment of the hood and grill. After seeing this thread again today I looked at the picture again and I kinda see it now, it also looks like the driver side of the grill fits a little tighter to the fender than the passenger side. Painting the grille black is my suggestion.
