My 1999 TJ is currently undergoing a Ford 8.8 rear axle replacement with a new SYE and driveshaft. By the way, I have 160,000 miles on the TJ. I am running 33" BFG All Terrain with a 5 speed manual and 6 cylinder 4L engine.

Since the 8.8 is a 4.10 I need to change my front differential to 4.10. As I understand it, here are my options.

1. Add new 4.10 ring and pinion, new carrier and rebuild kit. One shop quoted me $650 for parts and labor.

2. Find an XJ front axle assembly and install. Will I need new control arms? I checked one place and they want $700 for the front axle assembly. Then I have to sell the old Dana 30.

3. Find an TJ front axle assembly with 4.10 gears already installed.

Thanks,

My opinion: Keep the current 30, re-gear both to 4.56, sell the 8.8 4.10's. Your combo needs lower than 4.10.

If that option is not in the cards, do a gear swap in the current 30.
