New Jeep Owner

im buying a new jeep on the 3rd is there anything i should look for? its a 2000 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with the 4.0 and 33's on it?

thank you and yeah i know that i checked the entire frame for rust and other than the normal surface rust it doesnt have any i know i get to pick it up on the 3rd cause im out of town but i had already looked it over and it drives awesome...cant wait to get it.

If it's pretty much rust free, you should be good to go. Aside from basic scheduled maintenance, the rust is the real issue with these TJs.

From what I can see, it looks like a clean vehicle. Always be sure to ask the owner for any maintenance records they might have. I would say at this age most of them are due for a cooling system overhaul, and probably new drivetrain / suspension components. Nothing major or really expensive though.

Not to cause alarm but I seem to recall 2000-2001 years had problems with cracked heads which are not completely evident\obvious? Google it.

It wasn't a "recall" I just know I've read posts about it on other forums and it was related to the 4.0 both 2000 and 2001. If you did your due diligence and are mechanical or had a mechanic check it out it could be a non issue with this jeep. Again not trying to freak you out but it's worth looking into.

"the 0331 head was used on 2000-2006 TJs. 1999+ WJs and XJs also had the head. theres a ton of good info over on Jeeps-Unlimited by Dino - Cracked 0331 cylinder head castings - JeepsUnlimited.com Forums.
WJ's and XJ's are most prone to the cracking for some reason (higher production quantity maybe?), and after 2001 the problem was corrected by adding more nickle to the castings.

i think there should have been a recall on the 0331 head, but it would have probably bankrupted Jeep/Chrysler...so they my guess is they did nothing and hoped the heads would last until all the vehicles were out of warranty."

I just picked up a 1997 2.5L 5 speed and I had a few first time jeep owner questions too.
I checked for rust and we're good there. There are a few noises and rattles that I have to address or get used to (I need to find out which is which).
When dealing with a vehicle of questionable maintenance history, what are some things I should do or investigate to ensure the longevity of my new jeep? (Changing the fluids being obvious)
