New to forum, need some pointers

Just picked up an 04 wrangler se. Only has 42k original miles, but I'd still like to give it a good check over. First question, how do I know which 5 speed trans I have? It's the 2.4l motor. Second, how do I check the fluid level? I didn't see a dip stick but I may have over looked it. I'll get some pictures up to so you all can see. Already love my TJ!

Fill plug will be on the side of the trans on the passenger side. There is no dipstick just a fill plug.

NV1500 / NV2550 - 2003-2004
* 5 speed manual
* Used with 4 cyl models
* 2 different names used (1500 and 2550) interchangeably
* 10 spline input
* 23 spline output
* Ratios:1st - 3.85
2nd - 2.25
3rd - 1.48
4th - 1.00
5th - 0.75 or 0.80

There is no dipstick on any of the manual transmissions used in our Wranglers, dipsticks are generally found on automatic transmissions. There's a fill-hole on the side of the transmission you add gear lube into until it overflows, that's a sign it's full.

If you want to work on your rig yourself-——--don't we all-————— go to Amazon, eBay, eat and get a Factory Service Manual. You won't regret it.

As recommended by TJ4Jim, Redline MTL would be a very good choice for your particular transmission.

Stick yer little finger in.. if there is oil on the tip yer good.
And there may be better fluids but the manual will give you the factory recommended spec.
