Steer into the skid and take your foot off the gas to correct a skid.
Shift down rather than breaking. Automatics can shift to low then back to drive at lower speeds.
I had a shift on the fly automatic and used it in ice and snow a lot. Now I use the 6 speed manual instead.
Leave 4 car lengths in front of you so you don't hammer the breaks if traffic stops or some spins out. If someone tailgates I slow down more.
Keep a weather kit in the car. A big candle in an old coffee can with matches, blankets, food, jumper cables, a folding snow shovel, and water. Ski clothes if the wind chill is -20F like yesterday. Always have more than half a tank of gas. It adds weight to the back and you can run your heater if you're waiting in a ditch.
