Help TJ jeep people Im at the end of my rope with this no bus issue. I have tried all the recommened cures with no luck, there is no rhyme or reason when it happens. Sometimes just sitting still idling the gauges and no bus just come and go without any movement
Does anyone have a documented troubleshooting guide so at least i can make an educated guess as to what to do next
Thanks

The factory service manual for your Jeep is available on this site in the reference section. They have a step by step procedure for most things, I think including the no bus issue.

What pagrey said, but also intermittent electrical are the hardest to debug, but if I had to guess I'd say you have a weak ground. Can you share what methods you have tried?

Check the ground wires for oxidation and ensure they are tight that are fastened to the speaker mounting screws behind the speaker grills at the bottom of the dash board, the ground harnesses beneath the dash board mounted to the passenger and drivers side kick panels, the grounding wire above the radio behind the radio bezel and the grounding wires attached to the stud screwed into the engine block near the oil filter.
Any one of these can cause problems with the electronics for the Jeep.

i have checked all the grounds that i could find. i have removed the instument cluster numerous time also did the twist pin slightly.
I did replace ignition switch because I was losing power to the fuse panel behind glove box to airbag and ac blower. Will the pcm cause this issue and the jeep still run fine

My understanding is that the no bus really just prevents OBDII readings and makes some/most of the gauge cluster non-functional.

I don't know if it's the same issue, but I have a friend with a 97 who has similar issues. He has no fuel gauge because it's controlled by the PCM. But I believe the low fuel light is independent of the bus so he still knows when he's low on gas.

You need to check your ignition switch and harness. Remove the three screws holding the plastic clam shells around the steering column and inspect the harness connector.
The secondary contacts inside the ignition switch feeds the fuse box behind the glove compartment.

I am still chasing the no bus issue. I have a couple questions hopefully someone in this group can answer
1)does the airbag light cause a no bus or does no bus cause the airbag light to come on?
Here is the squence of events that happen before no bus
The gauges stop working , within a few seconds the airbag light comes on then in about thirty seconds the no bus and check engine light come on then without any rhyme or reason everything will start working again for a short period of time
Has anyone had the PCM cause these issues it seems to be not as bad when the outside temps are cooler
I have checked all the grounds I can find I tried to use the FSM to troubleshoot but it is a little vague when it comes to no bus

The "SRS" Air Bag light can come on for several reasons; bad clock spring, bad air bag or harness connector, burned out light bulb in second air bag On/Off switch in console are to name a few....
The No Buss usually occurs when communications are lost between the ECU and instrument cluster which can cause numerous electrical issues.

Old thread. I had crazy time upgrading to LED flashers, finally got that working and the the battery fried. I put in the new battery, now I have the no bus error, and the truck cranks but it won't start? Any ideas?
