NSG370 clutch replacement

On my 2005 I dropped the NSG with my brother. I'm sure there's more than 1 way but for me:

1. Took off the Transfer case. I certainly don't remember draining either Trans or TransC fluid like @machoheadgames did, it's been a year and a half, so I've killed a lot of brain cells with bourbon.
I don't drain the transfer case, I drain the transmission, because the ax15 will piss about a quart out the back if you don't. NSG is sealed back there so no issue for you. I forgot that difference between them so yeah if he splits them, he will not need to worry about it since he also has the NSG.

Do I have to pull the shift tower, or will just removing the shifter allow all the clearance I need to pull the transmission back?

I ordered Luk Clutch 05-065. Did I screw up? Summit said it fit the LJ. Seems like it’s about $50 cheaper than the 05-901 for some reason.

05-065 is fine. It’s the standard. 05-901 is the pro gold, it has a higher torque capacity due to a slightly larger disc surface area. Either is a fine clutch. They both work about the same in pedal feel and daily use.

No, that's the OEM equivalent.

the reason (left=OEM Sachs/LuK065 right=LuK091):

I just ordered the 091. I’ll return the other. Probably dumb to do, but I have the slightly heavier LJ and 33’s. My tiny brain likes the warm and fuzzy I get when I think about more surface area. Especially after driving the damn thing with this freaking shutter in first and reverse. Never again 😂

Either is a fine clutch, but if anything, at least the gold gives you a wider range of material to engage with. In other words, you aren't hurting anything by getting the beefier/heavier duty one.

The 065 is the one you want, Luk's "heavy duty" clutch it is more for a truck and it's noisier than it needs to be. The 065 is good for well over 200k miles for even someone who hasn't mastered a clutch yet.

They are essentially the same clutch with one having larger friction surface and stiffer torsion springs. No part of the gold clutch makes or could possibly make any more noise than stock.
