Hi everyone!

This is my first post and my first Jeep! Still has temp plate from dealer and is in dealer service now. Check engine light revealed a vacuum leak up under the gas tank. Also, while driving to dealership, about 40 miles away, the airbag light came on, turn sigs and radio stopped working. Here’s the big one: wierd noise, like a screech ending in a little whistle(!) when shifting esp in first second and rev. gears. Elec issue went away when arriving at dealers as did tranny noise. Does anyone have input to share?? Thanks!

Well, if it's already in service, I would ask them about this for sure, just to see what they think. However, the whine you're describing may not actually be coming from the transmission at all. Does it happen when you're just sitting at idle and rev the engine?

Chris, it has gone back three times to selling dealer (Toyota w/used cars of all makes). It’s there now. They can’t duplicate the issue. And no, it doesn’t happen while revving engine at idle. I think it may be an electrical issue somehow linked to the Jeep “thinking” it is being started, when clutch must be fully depressed. I’m wondering if the noise I hear is actually the starter engaging?? As heard when we forget the vehicle is running and turn the key? < ouch, awful noise!! >. The vehicle will shift, noise and all. Unfortunately for me, it was doing it in spades when I first drove it back to the dealer, parked, and cut off the engine. My salesman came out, I watched as he started it, and the darn thing ran and shifted like a top. Service kept it for a few days changed the tranny oil, and gave it back. I so wish I had left it running that first day! I love it when it’s behaving and both me and the dealer Service are frustrated. No open recalls. I may just pick it up and try to find an automotive electrical system wizard. Any hints are welcomed!
