Hello,
I'm going to flush the transmission fluid in my '01 Sport 4.0L 5 speed. The fill and drain plugs are a large hex head. I don't have a hex socket that large. Forum searches returned nothing and I was surprised that I couldn't find anything via Google either. I did find one video (not a good video) on YouTube in which a 17mm hex was mentioned. Is this the correct size?

Thanks,
Paul

It's easier to search if you know the transmission model number, for your year it should be the NV3550 and the fill and drain plugs should be 17 MM.

You can't search for "5 speed transmission", you're not going to find search results unless you use the transmission name, which as mentioned above, is NV3550.

Also, in case you didn't know already, this thread exists:

Jeep Wrangler TJ Factory Service Manuals (FSM) & Technical Documentation

You can (and should) download a free FSM in that thread, which not only tells you the hex size for the drain plug, but so much more :)

It's a must have if you plan on owning your TJ any length of time.

I found that a 10mm coupler nut fits perfectly. It sticks out far enough to get a good bite on, too. And cheap enough at Ace Hardware.

Side note: take the fill plug off first, just in case...
