Has anyone removed the speaker bar thingy that is screwed to the rollbar? If so where did you relocate speakers and courtesy lights? Please post pics so I can see if it looks stupid or better when removed. Thanks

Why would you want to? If you stuff the boxes and install some 6.5/6.75" speakers they will sound pretty good. I would think trying to fab up some kind of overhead light would look goofy.

The soundbar or pods (depending on model year) are pretty functional. I removed my pods to spray paint them and it didn't look any better. I would just leave them as is.
Some of the Jeep websites do sell speaker enclosures that squeeze into different spots on the Jeep but with top down doors off having the sound ear level is very functional.

I was wondering myself about what higher quality aftermarket is available as a direct replacement for the stock speakers.

You can fit 6.5s in the soundbar but you need to do some drilling which isnt a big deal since its plastic. If you order via crutchfield they will send plug and play adapters, but you can probably find better deals on amazon, etc. If you go aftermarket speaker route get something with a high speaker sensitivity (92db is very good, 89 sucks). I picked up some very inexpensive Kendwood 6.5s with a 92db sensitivity. You also can't go wrong with Polk.

I found that sticking with 5.25 inch speakers in the roll bar is plenty as long as you get quality ones. I have some Polks and they're amazing and I blare my music. No need to go to 6.5's in my opinion.
