Last week I noticed a burning smell. There were no CELs - my main observation was the smell / burning oil. I noticed oil leaking near the OPDA / oil filter. It looked like it was the OPDA seal, and it could have been my imagination or not, but it looked like the housing was vibrating more that normal. This a Crown replacement I put in last year using the OE sensor.

I aligned the Crown and pulled it to inspect. The gasket was saturated and I do suspect it is the source of the leak. I'd like your opinions on the gear wear, and if there is anything else I should inspect while the OPDA is off. I do have a new unit on hand that I was going to swap in to be safe in the event there is a problem with this unit.

OPDA gears:

Cam gears:

Are there any other items you'd recommend I inspect while this is open?

Those sharp edges are the side of the cam gear. Not a problem, the OPDA gear runs in the center of the cam gear, and doesn't touch those sharp sides.

Your cam gear looks exactly like mine, same amount of wear, at 100K miles.

Your OPDA gear looks a little rough, but that might be the lighting. My OEM gear was worn, like the cam gear, but didn't look that rough. Does it look like that to the naked eye? Does a change in lighting show the tooth surface better?
