Maybe make make a guide with some 2x4s while the current motor is in?

Let me fix that for you... =)

Only 5 times??? You're still learning after 10 tries....

Torn on that. I could pull my motor next week and have everything swapped over by the weekend.

Debating on pulling the transfer case and transmission separately. I know it's a bear to line up the transmission. I can imagine trying to stab the engine is dangling on a borrowed cherry picker or my tractor won't be easy.

Getting it done by next week gives me three weeks of shakedown time. If it works. Worst case I guess I stab my 4.0 back in...

So you'll be breaking in the engine on the drive down to Sand Hollow????

I've done it both ways... Lining up an engine on the transmission in the vehicle can work and other times it's more of a PITA.... Stabbing an engine with a tractor is a minimum 2 person job.... With a cherry picker it's possible alone.

Need to spend an afternoon and build me a shop crane. I have ideas.

I think everything will be easier with one of those bars that lets you adjust the angle of tippage.

-Mac

It's one of those I wish you were closer... I have a tilt cradle and YES it's a huge help over using a chain and screwdriver to set the angle with.

Harbor Freight has one for $40 unless you have a recommendation.

I'm only 5 hours away and if we time things right we slam the engine in Friday and go play at Browns Camp on Saturday. =)

Might Livestream the engine install if anyone wants to tune in. Online party.

Mine is still torn down from my Windrock trip.... Waiting on parts at this point... And UPS & FedEx are right on cue..... Stuff that was supposed to be here Friday are now not arriving until Tuesday...

Last stuff I (hope) I need are supposed to arrive Wednesday.....

Next weekend?

Is that near Tilamook? If so, I was just in that area on vacation. If not, where is it?

Yes Browns Camp is Tillamook State Forest....

That's 7 hours from me. It was quite a drive, but a beautiful one through the Columbia River Gorge and once past Portland into the Tilamook Forest. Roads there are pretty bad. It looks like the roads sunk in areas. Would love to make it over there but that's a full days drive and in an LJ probably not that fun! LOL. Would need at least 4 full days so I could get 2 days of wheelin in.

Browns Camp is worth the trip but I'd say make it a 5-6 day trip.... 3 or 4 days of wheeling... But you can probably do 90% of the harder trails in 2 days..

But there is still things to do in the area... Take a day to run out to the ocean and shoot some dunes @ Sand Lake..

Mac,
Geter Done...

I wish I had the guts you have. I'm intimidated by just putting in hydro assist, a transmission cooler, and a thermal bypass. LOL. Takes me forever, but you would have it done in a couple hours!

To be like Mac all you need is the energy of the energizer bunny and cocaine. He never stops.

Took a break from engine building yesterday...

A buddy of mine took a job with FEMA after Katrina. He had to pick up FEMA trailers and clean them out. Said between all the drug paraphernalia and the food left in the refrigerators for weeks in the Louisiana heat it was a horrible job.

Said it wasn’t uncommon to have refrigerators completely packed with rotten food when they pulled the plugs on them and left.

Need to install the timing chain cover. Need the crank pulley to center the seal...not buying another so I need the almost new one on my existing engine.

Pulled the transfer case and transmission. Started unbolting the front grill. Might go back for another round after dinner.

Neighbor's cherry picker doesn't look like it goes high enough to lift the engine clear of the bay...so I'll deflate the front tires and pull the grill.

And the transfer case is still leaking. Might be the speedo o-ring. Maybe I should rip apart the new to me one and move over the SYE. Maybe I should order a JB conversions SSYE and sigh a new rear shaft.
