Operation Phoenix

All I know is on the stock headers every time I've attempted to weld on one it cracked within 6 months of my repair...

Hopefully Banks will warranty it... How old is it?

I forget who's header @Woodrow has now on his. Don't remember if it was him or another member who had a Banks that had cracked like that also.

I had a JBA header that I bought with my golen stroker and that cracked at the collector. I did not ceramic coat that one, but I was using heat wrap. I replaced the JBA with the Banks revolver, which I had ceramic coated and did not use heat wrap and so far so good.

I thought I remembered it being something like this... Thanks

I cracked both the OEM front 1/2 and rear 1/2 manifolds on my 05. So I know the old rule is to avoid a single header (especially if no accordion included) — but even the regular manifolds can crack. FWIW

So I'm guessing that since you welded it Banks wouldn't warranty it?

I welded it after they put in a replacement order.

After the new one arrives I just need to send them a picture of cutting it in half.

But that'll wait until after it's ceramic coated. And after Sand Hollow.

Existing radiator and headers will just have to do for now.

Parts arrived. Lapped in new exhaust valves and got the springs reassembled.

Started in on the lifters...took two apart...not hydrolocked... installed the lifters...and realized I had 11. Spent an hour tearing apart the shop. Drove to town and bought another.

Bedtime.

Cool

Bummer..... Could of been a cheap mod for someone else.

I honestly can't comment on how well ceramic coating works or doesn't... But it does seem to be better than header wrap.

Existing radiator and headers will just have to do for now.

Hope they all hold together for the trip.

I've never had an issue with my lifters hydrolocking either. Hate when I've misplaced a part like that.

Bedtime.

As they say: The Hits Just Keep Hitting.... Seems maybe some of my bad luck traveled south...

It might be a sphere of influence... Canada is fucked...well at least BC. And we know the radius because it's not hitting @Woodrow and he's ~60 miles south.

Installed the engine. Cranks great. 64 psi oil pressure. Doesn't start. Apparently the two hours of studying how to install the distributor was a fail. Or the new Cardone one I purchased is trash. Might switch back to my original. Not exactly sure how to get the plastic cover off to get to the alignment pin/hole without breaking it.

Replacement bellhousing ordered for $250 off E-Bay. Not expecting it until at least Wednesday maybe even the week after.

Meanwhile I intend to get this engine started and broke in. Pretty sure that was my ninth transmission install. Going for ten!

Oh and I'm pretty sure the drain pan doesn't seal up...leaks out of the drain plug.

You're like an old-school NASCAR team getting this engine back in! They could do it mid-race and get the car back on the track.

I won't let my wife see your posts after it took me months to get mine out and back in! :ROFLMAO:

Keep positive! All the bad will be worth the good. After all you've done & are doing for the Earth with your recoveries - good news is coming!

Thanks for keeping us all along for the ride!

Sometimes the distributor gear gets installed 180* out on aftermarket stuff. The roll pin lands between teeth on one side and on a tooth on the other. Might be worth a look as there is no way to align it to spec if its wrong. Happened to me.

Did you try ether to see if it has adequete spark?

That'll be the first thing I check tomorrow. I've got a light and I'll probably pull number one and confirm TDC.

At TDC the rotor points at 1...so that felt pretty right to me.

-Mac

It will still kinda point at #1 but it will be half a tooth off. If you use the alignment pin method things get goofy

Ok using the alignment pin method I can't get the tie down bolt aligned. It's like it's a tooth before or a tooth after but not right there.

Both the XJ and my original distributor...cam sensor was melted into the housing and would not come off in one piece.

Might try my original distributor and the Cardone cam sensor.

And I thought my transmission debacle had me stressed. I'm stressed FOR you just watching this thread! But damn you move right along.

If you look at the distributor shaft slot and where the rotor is if it was turned to match the angle of your old on I think the rotors would be close.

I think from the way it sounds that it's one or two teeth off... That's just my SWAG but it's what it sounds like.
