P0432

I hate starting a new thread when there are so many already out there, so I'm reviving an old one instead. '04 4.0 manual 170,000 miles - original cats as far as I know.

Having the same P0432 issue and have been reading a few of the existing threads to figure out the problem. I've got brand new NTK sensors all around (<1 year old) and I've also tried to tighten the cat to manifold bolts in case they loosened up and reset the code. No glory - still throwing the cat code.

Before I got and throw a grand at this problem for 3 new cats, I'm wondering if it could a bad sensor? Perhaps the downstream o2 sensor isn't doing its job? How can I test that? I don't mind spending the money on new cats if that's what it needs, but I'd rather cover all my bases first.

TIA!

You could get an IR thermometer and do the pre/post cat heat check.

My turn to drag up an old thread but here goes. I threw the B2O2 code and replaced the sensor with the recommended NTK/NGK. Though all was good code came back. But then mysteriously cleared. Now it comes back every now and then, stays for 1-3 days and gone for weeks. Ive traced the wire and all looks good no burns or crimps or any signs of wear. My gut says its the CAT which if thats the case I am not changing it Ill just wait till the code is gone to get it inspected. In a couple of years it wont have an emissions inspection anyways. At that time Ill delete the CATs and put on headers and have it reprogrammed for no cats and 2 O2 sensors. Thoughts on my code problem?

Your cat is likely on its last leg. I had a similar presentation on a mazadaspeed3 that I had put a downpipe on with a high flow cat. Unfortunately, the cat was undersized for what the ecu expected as far as exhaust cleaning, so unless you drove the piss out of it and got the exhaust good and hot, it would throw the cat efficiency code. typical daily driving in traffic would trip the light.

same as you plan to, I waited till the light went off and had it inspected without any other issue.
