P0441 code and right front blinker

Hello,

1997 tj Sahara throwing a p0441 code no problems though. Check engine light just popped on out of nowhere. and for some reason right front blinker isn’t working. Changed bulb still not working. I guess it might be a wiring issue.

This is a common one, and the fix is usually always one of the following:

• Replace gas cap with new OE Mopar fuel cap
• Common Chrysler fix - Replace Leak Detection Pump / LDP
• Repair damaged EVAP lines or canister
• Repair open or short in voltage feed circuit to Purge Solenoid
• Repair open in PCM purge command circuit
• Replace purge Solenoid
• Replace vacuum switch
• Repair restriction in Evap line or canister or solenoid
• Repair resistance in purge connector
• Replace PCM

Usually it's either the gas cap or damaged vacuum / evap lines, so you'll have to do some poking around, no question about it.

On my 2005, my front right turn signal socket rusted out and caused it to periodically short out. I replaced the socket with the following OEM replacement. Was super easy. Not sure if this is the same on the 97 though. Do a part XREF to make sure.

I once drove 30 some miles without my gas cap. It surprisingly rode on top of the taillight the entire way. I never once had a code or felt any difference in performance. Is there something different on the YJs and early model 97s?

Well, after I posted this the jeep started to act crazy and my speed just suddenly dropped while going around 65 down the highway. so I pulled over but it never died. I killed and it started back up again but was kinda rough.

Strange. Perhaps there was some sort of fuel pressure event (related to the p0441 code). I'd definitely throw on a new gas cap to start with if yours is old. I'm running a Stant brand cap I got from O'Reilys with no issues. I think my Jeep idles a tad better after I replaced the original 13 year old cap. I had no codes, but the cap wouldn't click properly and I wasn't sure if it was sealing properly. Sometimes I would get a "fish-bite" on the idle, a very subtle quick dip that was not even registered on the tach. This happened once in a while when stopped sitting in neutral. I think the new cap may have cured this issue, possibly by allowing better pressure stability when the fuel pump was running at its lowest voltage/flow rate. A properly sealed gas cap is important, since it allows the fuel pump not to work as hard and can theoretically extend its life.
