Paint and repair suggestions

Moment of truth today! Will keep posted and take update photos for those interested. It was a hassle to get into this place for work but so far they are reinstalling all of my components and it looks pretty good in the shop lighting. Natural sun light will tell the true story.

I understand your anticipation and excitement, I just picked mine up last night from having the grill replaced, painted and installed from where I hit a deer last summer. Just gotta snap the grill inserts back on too. She looks perfect now, deciding on a stubby bumper now.

So not happy. Paid 1000.00 and this is the work I got from a place that had very high ratings. The main manager there has since ignored ALL of my calls and emails asking for them to make good on the issue.

Let them know you are willing to spend some time on every forum and site to be sure as many people as possible know to take their vehicles elsewhere.🤬 That is as bad as a rattle can spray job. 🤯

They were highly recommended. It was a major dealership with numerous locations and what was stated as a state of the art facility

Just remembered...happened to me a bunch of years ago. Went to insurance company to complain. They saw how bad and removed the (also a dealership) from their list of approved repair locations for all of (iirc) State Farm. Several smaller ins companies then followed removing them from approved repair centers.
The shop then tried to sue me for their loss of a lot of business. State Farm sent their lawyers and had it thrown out (the law suit). Might be another Avenue to try. No matter what don't let it slide. They will continue to do this to the next guy.

I feel for you.
Had this happen a few years ago to an S2K, took it back 3 times. They finally got it close enough that I was the only one that could tell. Problem was the way the flake laid when they sprayed it, didn't match the rest under certain light. Finally just threw my arms up.

I would let the manager know you will be contacting the Better Business Bureau and the local Chamber of Commerce. If he doesn't make right, then contact them.
Then take it somewhere else to fix their fuck up and have the bill sent to their shop.
$.02

Did some digging and managed to learn that this guy whom I was dealing with never relayed this issue to the main GM of the dealership. Went to talk to him yesterday and he was appalled as the emails I received and the paint work repairs I left with. He mentioned he will be in direct contact. As stated here, I mentioned that because of this guys last email and ignoring me this long I had already begun to fill out the legal papers in an attempt to be reimbursed for the bad repair work along with the additional costs I had to incur out of pocket. I do have collision and all that they insurance but at a 1000 deductible which made no sense to use and cause increased rates on my insurance. The final cost was 1050.71 for the work. Rental was 300 and change which the GM mentioned he was upset I was not offered a loaner on the house.

I can understand the cost of a rental. That part wasn't their fault. The repair part is what I feel the problem is. If they said 3 days then any cost incurred after that should be their priority. But the original cost of a rental (I think) should not be on their responsibilities.

I agree, the rental thing was mentioned outside of my concerns by the Main Manager in the facility who was just learning of the issue. I have a meeting with him tomorrow in which he wasnt to have an outside body spot inspect the work to get an unbiased looked at the job. He nor myself are 100% privy to painting. It's clear that the paint work sucks along with the process used to pull the dent. So hopefully this shop will speak out about the work done and I can get the panel redone correctly

So after having a second opinion the body guy said he'd have just replaced the panel and never attempted to pull the dent. The paint was subpar when it came to cleanliness but the color was matched 92%.
As for the bondo and the corner being skewed, again chimed in on favoring the side of panel replacement.

So I was offered a 300.00 reimbursement for the issues bringing the total job cost out of pocket to 850.00. Not completely content but I understand the panel should be replaced if their handy work with metal sucked.

Avoiding panel cutting was high on my list but what's everyones take on doing a comp cut on the rear tub and using armor plates for more protection?

Boy, that only works out if they are willing to now replace the panel and paint match for $300. Otherwise you are paying to repair the repair. And that is on them. Not you. Did they want to replace it and you overruled them to make them just pound it out? If they did the work then they are responsible for it. Unless you had a gun pointed at the guy forcing him to do it your way.

I don't know about your thoughts, but every time a looked at the repair my blood pressure would go up!

My blood is boiled.

And no, the shop manager who looked at the panel stated he would leave the panel and bang it out smooth. Never mentioned using any bondo for the imperfections left from the hammer.

After the meet up with the main manager he and the third party body shop looked at it and said aside from the knick in the paint from reinstall of parts that the color matched perfect and even his shop couldn't guarantee a paintjob without nibs and dust that settles in the paint.
So the 300 was the best I was going to get based on the price I was quoted. These shops ask for crazy hourly labor rates when it comes to paint and body. I was even given a theoretical number for replacing the panel of somewhere close to 4500 with paint after repairs.

I did pay out of pocket not insurance.

Possibly after deployment I might just tackle the tub corner on my own between shot welding and seam sealing and get it prepped for paint in 2021 when I return from deployment. Then I'll get it painted and have some genright alloy armor plates installed to prevent this headache from happening again. Unless theres other options.
It's a jeep at the end of the day so maybe I'm a little overreactive on the matter.

OCD at its finest here.
