Paint correction progress

So I am about a month into jeep ownership and the paint on my tj was driving me insane. There are these really fine scratches everywhere in the clear coat that look terrible, and the hood was the worst of them. I washed/clay bar'd and then tried to buff them out but they did not come out. I ordered a heavy cut pad and that didn't work. I ordered correction compound and that did not work. FINALLY I ordered some meguiar's 105 and meguiar's cutting pad and this combo is the business for fixing scratches.

Attached are example scratchs and the after of paint correcting the hood. Next is polishing with meguiars 205, then two coats of jescar powerlock plus, then two coats of collinite 845. The jeep will shine better than new after that!

Well done. Nice color too! I've used 105/205 in the past with good results. I recently tried a Griots product and actually like it better.

It doesn't dust up like the 105 does, and seems to have a longer work time. Buffs off easy too. The jeweling wax is just me being lazy and skipping a step, but the fast correcting cream finishes off so nice I didn't feel like I needed to polish much.

Bring it on over! Definitly DA — bought it at harbor freight ages ago and it still works awesome. Probably one of the best $50ish I have spent there.

I need to get some sawhorses before I tackle the doors. Gotta love that you can take them off

Thanks for the write up. I also purchased a HF DA polisher but did not have very much luck with it. I think I installed my base 6 inch pad incorrectly. Trying to get it to settle at high speed was very hard to do. It constantly tries to fight me even when applying little pressure. When I get back from school I might swing by and get squared away.

I bought a HF DA polisher this weekend and went over my Jeep with Meguiars 105 and 205. It looks a lot better. It's not perfect and never will be, but it definitely looks great from 10 feet or so. That 105 works great, but dusts like a mutha though.

Maybe you are using too much polish. That will make the thing hard to settle down.

It has been so long that I don't remember setting it up, but it sounds like you should exchange it.

The 105 will work great with a microfiber cutting pad. The only place I am not having as great success is the plastic sahara fenders — the metal looks great though.

Progress has been slow, but here is the same spot. Buffed out with one quick pass and there is absolutely no trace of it.

Progress is amazing. You are one patient man! But worth it. I’ve never seen such progress
