Passenger Reverse Light out?

Trying to get to the cause of my reverse light being out on the passenger side. Replaced the bulb, checked the wiring which seemed fine, unattached and reattached the taillight. It's a 42RLE, I was reading bit about a reverse light sensor but the drivers side and passenger brake light is fine so not sure where to go from here.

I believe the power comes from the same source as the brake light right? Haven't had a change to get a voltmeter to it yet.

My first step would be to try another bulb. Wouldn't be surprised if you just got a junk one by chance. If that doesn't work, I'd put a test light to the place where the bulb plugs in to see if you are even getting any power. In my head, if the drivers side one works, then the reverse light sensor has to be working (but I may be wrong about that).

No I agree with the logic. It makes no sense for one to be working and not the other. It most certianly has to do with that specific bulb. Might have to trace back to the junction split between left and right but if one works the reverse sensor is too.

Okay that’s what I thought haha I’ve been confused by it also. I’ll have to do some more checks, haven’t put too much time into it as I’ve just been confused. Only thing I could think of is the ground but I think that’s all fine from what I can tell.

I know it sounds stupid but make sure you have a 1156 light. It has a single element.

Look at the socket for any visible corrosion and/or test it to see if it is getting power. Check wiring running between tail lights. The wiring harness comes from the front to the driver's side tail light and then runs across. You may have to pull the back of the fender well splash guard to see up there (watch out for falling dirt in the eyes).

You may also want to try pulling the passenger light housing to access the wiring at the rear and test run a new ground wire.

Damn im out of ideas then. Funny enough i just changed my passenger side reverse light sunday.

I just slapped led ‘s in mine , and added foil tape to make them brighter .

Remove the bulb and gently remove the base and see if the purple and black wire is still connected under it.
