Perfect tire size at 81 mph

Here in PA you get well acquainted with hard acceleration. Consider this typical on-ramp:

Traffic in the left three lanes has a 55 mph speed limit. Literally everyone does 70+ though.

Meanwhile you have a stop sign, very little visibility to people coming up the right lane, and about 50 feet to accelerate to 70 mph. Then you have to do a jersey slide across an exit lane or two (while everyone is also switching lanes towards you) into the center or left lane to make it into the tunnel, where people inexplicably instantly slam on their brakes and do 40 instead.

Then there's your average Pittsburgh intersection:

Spin the camera around and count the roads. Same here:

I personally would be afraid of doing sustained 70+ in a tj. Both due to a possible failures as well as handling. You can have the tj maintained well (as you see it) but in a 20 some year old jeep? Things can fail without warning. God forbid if all of sudden there's a DW.

If I couldn't do 75-80, it would be unsafe to drive on the interstates and most state highways in the SW US where Iive. I'd be severely limited as to where I could wheel. Fortunately, 80 mph is no problem in my rig.

The TJ at 80+ is perfectly safe if you maintain it properly and have adequate steering and brakes to go with any other mods done.

I had it. 46,000 miles, all stock components. Hit a pothole and you'd almost break your wrist. 100% stock Rubicon.

Adding 4" of lift and 35s with proper hardware solved it. Also once you hit about 92 mph or so, it rides smooth as glass.

So, you obviously broke something over the pothole. Then, you fixed the broken components with a proper lift.
