I paid around $1K for my build early last year, haven't priced it out again. The 14 year old Mac Mini it replaced was still working fine, and would have been fine except my requirements changed and I needed "more power Scotty!". I generally keep a system for about 10-12 years, I'm actually hoping this one will be the last one I need - we'll see!

I was working on my daughter's car since she mentioned it squeeked when she stops. Ok brakes may be down to the squeeker tab.

Nope. That gave up the ghost a while back. Just metal on metal now. No pad left in one corner.

I asked her if she drove into the sea when she was working in Maine. We get rust but not like what was on her brakes.

So I had bought pads thinking it was about time to replace those, but she was never around. I went to get some rotors and other parts and damn. $90-100 a pop. Might need a new rear caliper too since those pads where a mess and I had a hard time backing the caliper in with the tool. Took a beer break.

I like keeping local stores in business because they then have stuff when things break and I need parts now. But they only had some of the most expensive parts in stock and not everything I needed. So I went online, ordered mid tier name brand parts for a car with 130,000 miles on it, and saved $350-400 at Rock Auto compared to using 3 local stores to collect in stock rotors, pins, and a replacement caliper.

I think a rear sticking caliper cooked the rear driver side brake. It came out in a pile of broken pieces.

Ever consider going Linux? Maybe try it out on that Mac Mini...

I am trying to get some students in our village here who advancing to prep school outfitted with notebook computers. Getting word out for some retired units that are out of use to wipe and install Linux on for the kids to use.

I have been Linux only for nearly 20 years, never go back.

the deeper I dig into this Grand Wagoneer the worse it gets.

I'd been focused on the obvious holes that I could stick my finger through, but as I went to knock off the loose scale in the floor to prep for POR 15 I saw some rust that had gone under the edge of the seam sealer in a few spots. Most of it didn't go more than 1/2" and didn't get to the actual seam, but this one did, and of course it would be up under the dash. Looks like I've got another patch to do.

On your Grand , have you cleaned out the fresh air vents. That's what caused some of our floor rust. Luckily was just surface and thru..

I haven't. I initially focused on the sunroof and drains because the headliner was destroyed and wet when we got it. Still need to make sure it's not coming in through any of the roof rack penetrations, but I'll check the vents too, thanks.

Guess I wasn't clear, I'm running Ubuntu on the new one. I used Linux 25 years ago, back in the RedHat 7.x days. I switched to Apple because it was a *nix that somebody else maintained. Unfortunately, Apple being Apple, I got tired of their bullshit, so came back to Linux. I still have to mess with it more than I'd like to get simple things to work, but it *is* a lot better than it was a quarter of a century ago.

I'm DONE with both Apple and Microsoft, for much the same reasons: Dumbing down to the smartphone level, Apple's needless "updates" that do little to nothing other than breaking everything, and Microsoft's damn smartphone-ization, crapware that is almost impossible to un-install, ads, and spyware. Oh, and Apple's bugs that they never fix. The list goes on...

I think a hack. Too much of this happening now.

Now, not to say that it was an outside nefarious actor perpetrating the hack. Could be an inside job, 9/11 style. Somebody making a point for the plebes.

ehhh, if you’ve been to London lately, the infrastructure is pretty decrepit. One of my good friends here is a US expat been here 20years and moving to South Africa (where his wife is from)….not many white American/Brits moving TO CapeTown theses days, for a better cost of living and infra services.

I’ve got to say that the Coca-Cola freestyle machine is like an IQ test for people.

We are sitting and people watching one. Should make a YouTube channel like the boat ramp guys do but based on those stupid machines.

You're a good Dad . Someday this will all come back to your daughter , and be really important to her . In the mean time smile and grab another beer . Good job man !
