Hello!

While working on other problems, I ran across what I think might be a power steering fluid leak. It ended up in a couple odd places, which looks like an oil pan gasket leak- maybe the power steering fluid could have vibrated or got blown over there? I took a couple photos- the reservoir seems like it’s in good shape. Any ideas of what this might be??

I just replaced the power steering high pressure hose on my teenager's 2000 XJ. The leak was right at the outer apex of the 15" or so long hose and the leak was noticeable when the system was pressurized at full left or right turn. The symptoms were fluid spray (ended up in weird places, as you mentioned), a whine as the fluid in the system got lower and lower, and of course harder steering effort. Turns out it's a common issue.

I would have someone turn the steering wheel full left and right (with the engine on and in PARK of course) while you're scanning under the hood in that area - you may be able to see the leak and/or spray. If it's leaked enough, you might hear some whining/moaning noise.

Good luck.
